The
aim of activities is to create a centre of natural education in the
middle of Alam-Pedja nature reserve – a nature school amidst pure
nature. The nature school offers natural education both to children and
their parents. The principle of the nature school emphasizes the value
of personal experience and feeling when getting acquainted with nature.
The nature school functions in the form of camps, working camps and
educational days. In 2000, ELF and LKÜ Kotkas (Association of Nature Conservation
Eagle) decided to purchase into common ownership a house suitable for
the school building and start to develop it. In 2001, a suitable house
was found. Support was received from Danish and Dutch funds to carry
out the primary renovation.
The natural educational activities of Palupõhja Nature School
commenced in September 2004, when LKÜ Kotkas, ELF and Tartu
Environmental Education Centre (TKHK) made a contract for the
development of the activity of natural education curriculum in
Palupõhja Nature School.
The nature school was festively opened for study on October 24, 2006.
Partners of ELF and LKÜ Kotkas in developing the activities of
Palupõhja Nature School are TKHK, the State Nature Conservation Centre,
Tartu Christian Adolescent Home. Activities have been financed by Prins
Bernhard Fond (Holland), Milieukontakt Oost-Europa (Holland),
WWF-Taani, Dr. Mall Stålhammar, AS Triip, Nordic Council of Ministers,
Lõunakeskus OÜ, Horizon Pulp & Paper Ltd, users of Daisy trademark
and SA KIK.
