Muraste Nature School is only in the process of establishment. MTÜ
Studio Viridis Loodusharidus (Natural education) in cooperation with
ELF has initiated natural educational activities in the region: in
March 2007, the first natural educational programmes will be completed.
The initiative is supported by Ahti Heinla.
Background:
Why does ELF support natural education and the establishment of
nature school in Muraste? Because we are convinced that people who
would really love and know nature can be schooled only amidst the
well-kept nature under the guidance of experts of nature. Unspoilt
nature surrounding Muraste and its diversity – bogs, forests, sea and
seashore – is the ideal suburban place (20 km from the centre of
Tallinn) for that.
More than a half of Estonia’s population lives in Tallinn and
Harjumaa. There are practically almost no chances to conduct natural
education of Estonian nature with the possibility of outdoor education
and guides. The nearest places are Sagadi and Aegviidu nature schools
established by the State Forest Management Centre. In Tallinn, nature
centres are working, offering chances to a couple of hundred children
nowadays. We believe that providing natural education in such place is
the safest investment to the future, which helps to raise nature caring
people in Estonia and mostly in Tallinn.
Why Muraste? The conditions of the region act as necessary
qualities to being natural educational activities. In turn, educational
activity will support the good care of local natural values.
