The main aim of the Demo Farm project is to develop a network of farms for demonstration of sustainable farming practices in Latvia and Estonia. Estonian participants:

Kurese Village The village has died out but its life is still visible from cradle to grave: we see how Kurese was born just after the rise of land from the Baltic Sea, how ancient fields fed it, how castles protected it while ceremonial stones and oak groves brought its people together. Death shows off in the oldest Estonian stone burial site as well as in the ruins of buildings everywhere. However, new life emerges nowadays in the wooden pasture where a herd of beef cows combat raiding wolwes.

Koivakonnu Farm Koivakonnu Farm works as the first business to supply Parmu Eco-village where people desist from globalisation and technology-dependence. The vision of the community is to live from low-tech and local work such as breeding beef cows in Gauja river valley.

How to convince diary manufacturers that organic milk is better? If they do not come together, just manufacture yourself! Pajumäe farm runs its own organic diary industry, selling a wide range of final products. We tried their yogurt - mmmm!

Riido Eco-Farm
For safe stops in long journeys, European birds need semi-natural open coastal areas. Beef cows, crazing on coastal pastures of the organic Riido eco-farm, provide such habitat for hundreds of bird species. Crazy hikers can pass through the extreme nature path which crosses a mile of shallow sea.
Organic farm Sepa farm
Sepa farm, in the heart of Pikavere village, serves as an island of pre-industrial milieu and life-style. However, the environment and tranquility of the village is threatened by a planned dolomite excavation nearby.

Sürgavere collective farm
A large diary farm provides bird watching service, monitors and protects rare birds. To help lesser spotted eagle, the Sürgavere farm avoids application of pesticides near its nest and maintains grassland instead to provide food supply for the endangered bird.

Viraito Farm
Estonian national winner of the Baltic Farmer 2010 cleaned up River Põltsamaa which used to receive polluted water from Põltsamaa town. Viraito dairy farm cooperates with the wastewater treatment plant, applying flotosludge to fodder fields.

Väike-Nakatu Farm
Hilly landscape of the Nakatu tourism farm is taken care by beef cows. Within Demo Farm project, the farm is looking for a solution to replace the existing electric heating system of the hotel building with a sustainable technology.
