Kurese Village

The village has died out but its life is still visible from cradle to grave: we see how Kurese was born just after the rise of land from the Baltic Sea, how ancient fields fed it, how castles protected it while ceremonial stones and oak groves brought its people together. Death shows off in the oldest Estonian stone burial site as well as in the ruins of buildings everywhere. However, new life emerges nowadays in the wooden pasture where a herd of beef cows combat raiding wolwes.

  • An old stand of hazel-trees
  • Limestone-based forests and meadows
  • Wooden pastures
  • Heritage landscape with a potential to become a national landscape
