Estonian Environmental Law Center (EELC) was founded in 2007 by environmental NGO Estonian Fund for Nature (ELF) and 3 public interest environmental lawyers. In fact, EELC is continuing environmental law activities, carried out by ELF in previous years. These activities have involved environmental legal aid in numerous cases, but also legal analyses and participation in legislative procedures.

In 2002-2004 ELF provided free environmental legal help for environmental NGOs and individuals. The criteria for providing legal help in cases were significant public interest and sufficient grounds to win the case in court.

Since January 2005 the environmental help service has been stopped and the litigation activities have been limited only to cases of major significance that have catched the attention of network of the Estonian environmental NGOs (EKO).
