Mires - fens and bogs - have always been somewhat mysterious to our nation. Who would not have heard the stories about flickering lights that misguide wanderers to the hollow or treasures hidden in sloughs. These landscapes, for long underestimated and even despised, have become ever more valuable in our rapidly changing world. Earth and water meet in mires, creating a new association. Mires and other wetlands are  transitional areas between land and water, being one of the most peculiar environments.
